Alpha 13.9 - Craftable Paintings: Today's update includes the new craftable paintings! There are 10 paintings in total. Five of the paintings will *only* available to Early Access players.Paintings a require a painting frame, a painting canvas, and an alchemy ingredient. Frames are crafted by Carpenters and canvases and the paintings themselves are crafted at the Tailor.This update also includes some fixes:Masterwork armor can always be used to craft decorative armor sets.You should no longer see blue orbs on your radar map. These were used when I was testing the falling leaves system.Falling leaves now correctly disappear when a tree is chopped down.The falling leave system will no longer place falling leaves on trees that aren't fully grown.Fixed a bug with Ram Helm Decorative Armor that caused the icon to fail to display in your inventory.Fixed a bug that caused the Grrrumble Quest to fail to start.The Stonemasons will no longer lose Shopkeeper status after loading a save.Optimized the system that creates the crafting list when you speak to a shopkeeper.Removed the glare from the 3D crafting view.I'm also working on the new Story Quests and the new combat system. Optimization Test Build with New Trees: click image to see full sizeBeen working on more optimizations using the new trees and decided to make a build so you all could check it out too.The screenshot above is at 2560x1440 with most settings turned up. Note the 150+ framerate at the bottom left of the screenshot!Now, this is one tree with no variety yet so the framerate won't be that high once I add in the variety and the leaf colors, but overall it's a great starting point and about 30-40 FPS higher than I get with the current trees.Also, unlike the current trees, the leaves on these move with the wind.To try this yourself, grab the latest test build (instructions linked below) and load a new game. Has to be a new game as these trees aren't set up to work with chopping down.Once your character loads into the world do the following to replace the current trees with the new tree:Hold down right-alt and right-ctrl and then press T.While still holding down right-alt and right-ctrl, press H.The new trees should appear and the old ones get turned off.Going to do more tests with this myself on my test PCs. Behind the Scenes - Falling Leaves: I'm wrapping up the first phase of adding the new trees with the addition of the falling leaves. If you're interested in some behind the scenes stuff, I created a video showing how the leaves are created. The system is optimized to only use a few falling leaves generators, moving them around and coloring them to match the tree they are falling from as you move around in the game world.I think It's a neat little system so I figured I'd share. :)https://youtu.be/p-xNTR9NGMoThis will be in the next build. I'm still adjusting the leaf canopy colors and once that's done, the falling leaf colors will be updated to better match the trees.I have some more stuff I want to add with the trees but the basic implementation is done. Hoping to have the remaining trees (weeping willow, cherry blossom, and pine trees) in the game in a few days. Once that's done, I'll work on the better looking tree falling system. I also need to audit all of the trees on the map to make sure they aren't floating or too close to another tree. My plan is to do that last once I'm happy with the rest of the parts of the trees.. Roadmap Update and Sneak Peeks: So I find myself in a bit of an unexpected situation...everything from the original roadmap is either done or in progress! The new art however is taking a lot longer than I expected. So finishing the weapons, armor, and monsters will still be a while. But, this also means I have more time to add new features and/or improve existing features! Some minor tweaks for the artist to make, but I'm super happy with how these turned out. They look functional, but not particularly sturdy, signifying them as the weakest of the crafted items. Can't wait to be able to show you all the rest of the armor and weapon sets!I might put these in soon rather than wait for all of the armor and weapons to be completed. When I do add them, all of the weapon and armor displays will also be updated to use the new look.. Alpha 13.5 - Optimization and Tree Loading: Today's build includes the townspeople pathing optimization, a new system for loading trees, and the bug fixes mentioned in the test build updates.Townspeople should look like they are working exactly as they did before. The difference is they now use a lot less CPU to do their path-finding and wandering.Similar to the townspeople, the new tree loading system should look and act exactly as it does now. The big difference is the old system had the trees on the map by default. This system loads the trees dynamically. It's a behind the scenes change that will allow me to add the new trees more easily. In addition, it opens the door to allow you to choose the tree quality and diversity to either improve performance or focus on the highest quality. I'm going to be working on that part next.These are both really big changes to the existing systems, even though you shouldn't notice any difference, other than better framerate! If you do see any odd behavior, please let me know.In addition to those changes, this build also includes some fixes and other optimizations (including stuff from the test builds):Updated the graphics optimization system to ensure it doesn't hide small items (like weapons) when they are in view.Fixed a bug that sometimes caused the second town attack in the Orc Quest to fail to start.Fixed a bug that caused the third ingredient in the last item in the crafting list to not display.Fixed a bug where Farmers would use the run animation while moving at walk speed.The ESC key can now be used to close the town storage UI.You can no longer place a building if the road is outside of the town's build area.Fixed some optimization bugs that caused doors and NPC items (like hammers, pitchforks, etc) to disappear even when they were in view.Updated the windmill blades to have some canvas rather than just wood..
